Martin St-Jean Announces Candidacy for Mayor of Beaconsfield
Beaconsfield, Quebec – February 7, 2025 – Martin St-Jean, a lawyer specializing in municipal law and a current member of the city council, has announced his candidacy for Mayor of Beaconsfield for the November 2025 elections. With nearly 15 years of experience in the municipal sector, Martin St-Jean is committed to working for the well-being of all citizens and promoting sustainable and inclusive development.
“I am honored to run for Mayor of Beaconsfield,” said Martin St-Jean. “My priority is to serve our community with integrity, transparency, and dedication. My professional background and my experience over the last four years have allowed me to understand the complex issues our city faces. I am committed to listening to our citizens’ concerns and working together to build a better future for Beaconsfield.”
Martin St-Jean also extended his heartfelt thanks to the current mayor, Georges Bourelle, for his exemplary service to the community. “I am unaware of his intentions, but I would like to thank him for his years of dedicated service to our community. His hard work and commitment to Beaconsfield will have a lasting impact, and I am determined to continue on this path.”
However, the challenges related to density and sustainable development require Beaconsfield to act proactively and have new inspiring leadership to face the challenges ahead. Martin St-Jean, a resident of Beaconsfield for 16 years, married and father of two children, is determined to strengthen municipal services, improve local infrastructure, and promote initiatives for a healthier environment. “It is extremely important to me that Beaconsfield residents remain always front and center in the agenda of our Council. I also believe that council members should play a more significant role in tackling the challenges ahead. This is our city, and Council should have a central role in shaping the type of community we want to have.”
In light of the urgent challenges posed by global warming, Martin St-Jean emphasizes the need to prepare Beaconsfield’s infrastructure to withstand the consequences of climate change. “It is imperative that we address the impacts of global warming head-on. We must invest in resilient infrastructure to protect our community from extreme weather events as much as possible and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.”
In addition, Martin St-Jean proposes a sound budget-management approach and to act locally to increase the city’s revenues and keep municipal taxes at a reasonable level for residents. To achieve this, it is essential to increase density in a thoughtful and sustainable manner to meet the growing needs of our community while preserving our quality of life.
Martin St-Jean has a proven track record of integrity and dedication to public service. He served as the City of Montreal’s attorney at the Commission Charbonneau, which investigated corruption in the management of public construction contracts. Additionally, he held the position of Director of Legal Services for the City of Westmount from 2015 to 2019. Moreover, he has been mandated by the Union des municipalités du Québec (UMQ) to provide ethics training to municipal elected officials.
His experience, dedication, and commitment to ethical governance make him the ideal candidate to lead Beaconsfield.
